333480i - Still lots to do!!!!

by leemason, Saturday 28 of January, 2006 [17:41:44 UTC]

I have had the same problem with the 480i plus many others. Firmware 1.3 is a real problem. I have a problem with the built in switch. It goes something like this. I plugged a PC into the phone and rebooted the phone. The connected PC could not get a DHCP address. When I allocated a static address I found that whilst I can ping the phone I cannot pnig anything else on the network.

If I reboot the switch whilst pinging another network device (which times out initially) when the phone comes back up the ping works! I can see everything else on the network and can ping the phone. The only problem is that the phone cannot then be seen form the rest of the network.

The other problem is that the phone sometimes hangs on reboot trying for a DHCP address. I have found that on some occasions the only way that I can get the phone to reboot properly is to unplug any attached PC.

For a relatively expensive phone it has a lot of problems.

The voice quality is pretty good though! It's worth mastering the use of config files rather than using the Web GUI as you can do more with config files and they do work quite well. If they can fix the glitches this would be a really great device!

333480i itches

The old firmware (1.2) and the current firmware (1.3) have a nasty flaw that they try to register now and then with the wrong credentials.
In the 1.2 firmware this is non-recoverable via the web-interface.
In the 1.3 firmware this is potentially recoverable.
I've noticed that it sometimes uses the following registration request:
Screen Name<sip:Phone Number@domain:port>
Which should be (and it does for most of the other times):
Caller ID <sip:Authentication Name@domain:port>
This is not annoying for the end-user of the phone, just for the admin of the server that's being registered with.
Most likely a bug.
