GNET VoIP phones

GNET VP320

320I,M,S,

I = IAX2
M = MGCP
S = SIP

Image

The most compelling feature of this phone is price. It costs about the same or even less than a Grandstream Budgetone 102. The second most compelling thing for me is the IAX2 version of this phone. There are not many IAX2 phones around. That may change as time goes on.
Specifications

I phoned GNET and asked for a manual because they don't have one on their site. They emailed me a manual from Beijing Centrality Communications Inc. called PA168X IAX2 Phone user manual. I found that company site but could not find that document. I can't figure out any way to post it here so you will just have to ask GNET for it yourself.

The picture in the manual did not look anything like the VP320 but GNET assured me it was the same on the inside. Upon further requests for the differences on the outside they sent me a close up picture with a description. I am assuming the IAX2, SIP and MGCP versions of the phone have all the same features.

333re-setting this phone and comments

First, I do concur with previous critism that the hand-set is easily unset from the phone, though we use this phone often and do not find it that much of a problem. Overall I think it is a good value for the money, though I would not want it to be my primary phone for business.

To reset the GNET version of the phone, you need to
1. un-plug the power from the phone (to power it off)
2. hold the * asterisk key, then plug the power back in to the phone
3. once the "booting" message appears, release the * key
4. unplug the phone again and repeat steps 1-3
you should see the page0 message on the LCD
5. dial *5#5, the phone will reset

333beware of distributor...

by georgem, Monday 13 of February, 2006 [21:40:16 UTC]
I have ordered the IAX2 phone from Canadian distributor, Gentek Marketing. Wanted to play with it, see how manageable echo is, as I have clients with echo issues. Unit arrived promptly, but it had a defect, telephone cord would not 'click in' into handset. I continued setting up the phone, holding the cord manually in the place. Once satisfied with the set up and basic operations, I called Gentek and obtained return authorization. Few days later, they call me and explain that the only way that this defect could happen is if somebody pulled on the cord or dropped it. The conversation had a strange forensic tone to it, too much CSI perhaps... "Factory in Taiwan will not accept this unit". Apparently it did not occur to Gentek that this unit could be defective from the beginning. I asked them to toss the telephone to garbage. In the end, I still do not know how this unit performs, do know that the build quality is low and also know to avoid Gentek. Not recommended.

333good entry market phone

Well for being a cheap IAX2 hard phone option I can't complain, I do agree with X1Z the "receiver hangup molding" on the physical design could be re-worked. Maybe get a headset extension for it ? We just added these to the catalog for our online store and I think we will keep selling them... for now : )

333one of the worst phones

by X1Z, Wednesday 21 of September, 2005 [03:38:22 UTC]
I have one of these, but haven't bothered to play with it much. Plan to play with the open-source firmware at some point.
4 different people couldn't hangup the receiver properly 3 out of 4 times, and the buttons are flakey. Worst physical design. If you want to experiment, it's cheap. If you need a reliable phone, keep away.
