Grandstream HandyTone 286

Hardware

  • 1 Mb Flash
  • 256 Kb SRAM
  • a TI TMS320VC5402 100 MHz DSP
  • an RTL8019AS ISA 10 Mbit Ethernet controller
  • a phone interface
  • and some glue around that

These are quite cheap components (the most expensive part is the $6 DSP).

They work great though. Very easy to configure, excellent audio, great selection of codecs.

It has a handy lighted button, which doubles as a status/MWI and accesses a built-in IVR menu when pressed. Pressing the button twice puts the unit in "IP dial" mode.

333How to reset HandyTone Phones

by ctassell, Monday 19 of June, 2006 [16:56:16 UTC]
This works on the later model HT's, so I assume it works on the HT-286 and HT-286 line as well.

Pick up the handset and dial *** to get the IVR. When the menu comes up, hit 99 for the reset menu and enter the MAC address of the adapter to do a factory reset. For the letters in the MAC, replace them with 2 + a 2 for each position in the alphabet. IE, A = 22, B=222, C=2222, D=22222, E=222222, F=2222222

Once the reset code is properly entered the phone will hangup and the headset will go dead (no dialtone or anything) Hangup, and in about 30 seconds the red light on the adapter should start blinking to let you know that the reset is complete. I would not suggest removing power from the adapter while it's re-writing the firmware, as it might kill the box. You don't need to power cycle after the firmware has been reset, it will automatically reboot into a clean config.

333Hardware resetting?

by arnar, Friday 19 of May, 2006 [17:19:24 UTC]
Hi there,

I've somehow messed up the config of my HT-286 (probably with VLAN parameters). The only documented way I find to reset it to factory default settings, is to push the button and use the IVR menu to select the reset action. However, nothing happens when I press the button :o(

The HT gives the phone some voltage (no dial-tone), and the otherwise blinking-red led turns green when I pick up the handset.

Does anyone know of a way to do a true hardware reset on the HT-286? Grandstream won't answer my support emails..

333Hostname

by Keith130, Monday 16 of May, 2005 [00:24:29 UTC]
The 286 seems to have no hostname, is there anyway to PuTTY/telnet into and set the value in its firmware?
