IAX Phone

IAX Phone is an IAX2 soft phone. It is currently available as a free demo. Two GA versions should be available by spring of 2006: IAX Phone Pro (commercial) and IAX Phone Lite (free). The phone supports many advanced business features missing from other soft phones: integrated call recording, URI dialing, URL handling for iax: and tel: URIs, and SIP-Over-IAX (the ability to dial SIP URIs over IAX2).

333Call progress troubles

by jamesbowman, Monday 16 of August, 2004 [20:31:22 UTC]
I was very interested in this phone because (1) it's free and (2) is one of the few softphones with multi-line support. We wanted to use it in a small office instead of $200 Polycom phones.

But initial impressions are not good. The "Redial" button appears to do nothing, and call progress tones don't appear to work well with Asterisk. That is, a dialplan entry of Dial(IAX/blah,,) or Dial(IAX/blah,,r) gives silence back at the IAX phone until the called party picks up. Same with SIP channels.

The 4-line feature too appears to be eaily broken - with lines going into "flashing pink" (whatever that means) state, from which there is no recovery but to restart the phone.

YMMV, etc.
