333RIP plainvoip

by oobx, Thursday 30 of November, 2006 [20:33:03 UTC]
I suppose they simply weren't making money. They had the best rates. Sounds like it's becuase it was a one-man band running it part time. I never kept much money in my account. But, it's very aggravating that the service was disconnected without notice, as were outages that occurred over the past few months. Nor is their website providing any information at all (as usual), even giving a 404 error today.
<p>
I would be glad to participate in a class-action lawsuit if anyone would like to champion one. My financial loss was minimal. But, I am temporarily out of phone service and ticked that there is not even a goodbye message at http://www.plainvoip.com

333Plainvoip is really gone

by wmelnick, Thursday 30 of November, 2006 [19:50:01 UTC]
I had the opposite problem with plainvoip. I was still able to terminate calls, but I could not recharge my account. I called then and eventually got a very confused sounding person. He said that Brian no longer worked there and gave me the sipposed new rep who seemed to know nothing.

I reported that I was having a problem. The next day I got a call from someone who knew his stuff technically who said that he was the person who provided the services for plainvoip and that I should use up whatever money I have with them as he was about to cut them off.

Today I notices that the web site is no longer there.

RIP plainvoip.

I will say that net iq systems has picked up the slack for me admirably and given me a level of customer support the likes of which I have never seen before.

333Plainvoip going out of business

by afried, Saturday 21 of October, 2006 [17:43:06 UTC]
After a two day outage which began on 10/01/2006, I was finally able to access Plainvoip's website. A message appeared on the front page stating that they were shutting their operation down and advised customers to use up their remaining minutes, that they would not refund unused minutes, and to port any existing numbers over to a new provider. The message was removed from the front page a few minutes later, but when I went into the billing section, the following message appeared, "Per Management Request. Plainvoip will be no longer available. Please use your remaining balance. "

2006-10-21 Update - Plainvoip's service apparently went down on October 18th, 2006, even though they're still allowing people to register new accounts and recharge their existing accounts. Four days outage and no messages from the so-called "customer support"...
